ARDA-NJ Called to Look for Ellenville Drowning Victim

July 2005

On April 4, 2005, Ramapo, ARDA-NJ, was called by the Ulster County Sheriff Department to locate a drowning victim. The missing woman had drowned when her Ford Bronco was swept away during flooding that occurred near a hotel in Ellenville, NY. The victim's daughter had been able to escape the vehicle and reach safety. The mother did not know how to swim and was reported to hate the water.

Later the same day, Ramapo was advised to stand down from the search. The woman's body had been found downstream on an island. Four dog handler teams from Ramapo were prepared to respond and had been scheduled to search that island the next day.
