PARENT PARTICIPATION

Parents should remain in the classroom with their children for all class levels in order to help reinforce the lessons at home.  Once the child has advanced to the 3-5 year old program and is FULLY potty-trained, the parent or caregiver may leave the room if the child remains calm.  For parents who cannot participate in class with the child, we strongly encourage you to sign up for a Parent-only class.  Your knowledge of the language and the frequency with which your child is exposed to hearing Mandarin Chinese will greatly enhance the success your child has with learning Chinese.

TUITION POLICY

Tuition is payable in advance and must accompany registration. No child will be allowed to participate in class until a registration form is signed and received.  If enrollment is received after the second week of classes, tuition will be pro-rated accordingly.  Tuition is calculated on a semester/annual basis.  There are three payment options for your convenience:  1. Annual payment option requires the full 35-week tuition to be prepaid.  You will save $100 per child; 2. Semester payment option requires the full Fall or Winter/Spring semester tuition to be prepaid.  You will save $25/semester/child; and, 3. Half semester payment option requires two equal installments.  The first is due upon registration and the second is due 15 October for Fall and 15 March for Winter/Spring.

Half semester tuition received 5 days after the due date (15 October and 15 March, respectively) will be charged a $20.00 late fee.  Returned checks are subject to a $20.00 fee.  Students with outstanding balances from the previous term will not be permitted to re-enroll until all accounts are current.

Please make all checks payable to ChinaKids, Inc. and send to the mailing address.

ARRIVING TO CLASS

Please make every effort to arrive on time for class so that your child/children will get the most out of his/her experience.  If you are early, you may wait in the waiting area just outside of the classroom.  Please be respectful of the people working as we share that space with the office staff of another company.  Parents/caregivers, please supervise your child/children so that noise is kept to a minimum.

Please wash child/children’s hands thoroughly and use the toilet before class begins.  Upon entering classroom, please use hand sanitizer.

Strollers can be stored in the hall storage area to the right of the entrance door.  Please do not leave strollers or any personal belongings at the front main entrance of the center as this area is not designated for our use.  Children should remove shoes and place into the bin provided.  Coats and other winter gear can be put inside the classroom, not on the couch.  Please ensure child has socks as the classroom is a no-shoes facility.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

- Safety is top priority at ChinaKids, and we are conscious of this as we plan and execute our curriculum.

- We take careful note of the health and dietary restrictions section of the registration form and provide snacks accordingly.  Our goal is to serve children nutritious food, and when possible, food that is culturally relevant.  Water is the drink of choice.

- Please ensure that children walk, not run, in the parking lot, hallways and in the classroom.

- In the case of disruptive behavior, we will try to work with the child in the classroom and meet with the parents.  If the disruptive behavior becomes extreme, the child may be asked to withdraw from the program.

EMERGENCIES

In case of an emergency, parents will be notified first, then the emergency contact (if different from the caregiver).  If neither can be contacted, we will call 911 and the child will be treated at Children’s Memorial Hospital.

No ChinaKids staff will administer medication of any kind to children.

ILLNESS

If your child has a fever, he/she cannot return to school until they have been fever-free for 24-hours.  Your child should also remain at home if they have a hacking cough, rash, upset stomach, diarrhea, discolored mucous in the nose or any other unusual physical symptoms.  If you child arrives at school with any of these symptoms, we will ask you to take him/her home.  If any of these symptoms develop during the school session, the teacher will send the child home.

If your child contracts a contagious disease such as strep throat, chicken pox, scarlet fever or conjunctivitis, please contact the school immediately.  We will notify parents, public health authorities and teachers accordingly.  The child who is ill will remain anonymous.  If your child is absent from school for more than five days due to illness, we will require a note from a doctor permitting the child to return to class.

MAKE-UPS

If there are cancellations during the year due to unforeseen circumstances on ChinaKids’ part (i.e., inclement weather/snow days), make-up days for the Fall will be 19 – 22 December 2005 and 30 May 2006 – 5 June 2006.  Please call Deborah at 312 622 2255 if you are uncertain if class is cancelled.

Please notify us in advance if a child is going to be absent from class.  We will try our best to schedule make-up sessions for your child for another class time, space permitting, within the same session.  However, we are unable to pro-rate or give a refund/credit for missed sessions.

BIRTHDAYS

Please confirm with Deborah if you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday in class and which day you would like to schedule it.  You may bring a snack that day if you choose, or we can serve what was originally planned with that day’s lesson plan.  If you choose to bring a snack, it must arrive to class in sealed packages with a legible ingredient label. Please refrain from bringing any snacks that contain nuts, nut oils or nut particles (including Ritz Bits, certain types of granola bars and certain types of rice cakes).

CHINAKIDS GUARANTEE

We are confident that you and your children will learn Chinese and have fun doing it.  But if you are ever dissatisfied, we will refund the remainder of your tuition after written notice of cancellation.
